wellenvorm - Petrified Forest

DE: Der Vulkan erwacht, die Apokalypse beginnt. Eine gewaltige Druckwelle bricht sich Bahn und zerstört alles, was ihr im Wege steht. Tausende Bäume werden entlaubt, Äste und Zweige brechen. Mächtige, bis zu dreißig Meter hohe, Stämme knicken wie Streichhölzer um. Glühende Aschewolken wälzen sich zu Tal, Milliarden von kleinen Bimsteinbrocken regnen auf die Landschaft herab. An den mächtigsten Stellen türmt sich dieses Material 90 Meter über dem eben noch lebendigen Wald auf. Dieses Geschehen liegt 291 Millionen Jahre zurück.

Nach dem Ausbruch sickert Kieselsäure in die begrabenen Stämme, die sich im Verlauf von kosmischen Zeiträumen langsam in Stein verwandeln.

Diese Story ist nicht erfunden. Auf dem Schauplatz des urzeitlichen Infernos steht heute meine Heimatstadt Chemnitz in Sachsen. Zahlreiche Zeugnisse des Geschehens wurden aus der Erde gegraben und bilden den "Versteinerten Wald", ein weltweit bekanntes und bestauntes Naturdenkmal.

Ich schwebte im Zentrum des Geschehens und blickte in den Schlot des rauchenden Vulkans, ich spürte das Dröhnen der Erde, die Druckwelle, die tödliche Aschewolke und die Stille danach. In meiner Phantasie durchschritt ich einen Wald aus kristallisierten Stämmen.

Die Inspiration zu diesem Konzeptalbum verdanke ich meinem Freund, dem bekannten Designer und Autor Jochen Voigt, der mich auf die Spur des Versteinerten Waldes lockte und nicht zuletzt auch das Artwork für mein Album besorgte. Eine Idee war geboren - nun liegt das Ergebnis vor. In zweijähriger Arbeit entstand das neue Album "Petrified Forest", meine Hymne an das steinerne Weltwunder von Chemnitz.

EN: The volcano awakes, the apocalypse begins. A tremendous compression wave starts is distructive way. Thousands of trees are being defoliated, limbs and branches break. Huge, up to thirty meters high, trunks bend over like matches. Ingenous ash clouds roll into the valley, millions of small pumices stone lumps rain down on the landscape. At the most concerned areas this material mounts up 90 meters above the just living forest. This happened 291 billins years ago.

After the eruption silicic acid seeped in the buried trunks, which transform into stone in the course of cosmic periods.

This is not a fictional story. The location of this primeval inferno today is my hometown Chemnitz in Saxony, Germany. Numerous evidence of the events have been dug out and form the „Petrified Forest“, a worldwide famous and marvelled natural monument.

I am floating in the center of events and gaze into the chimney of the fuming volcano, I am feeling the drone of the earth, the compression wave, the lethal ash cloud and the silence thereafter. In my fantasy I am walking through a forest of crystallized trunks. I owe the inspiration to this concept album to my friend, the famous designer and author Jochen Voigt, who lured me on the trace of the Petrified Forest and who designed not least the artwork for my album. An idea was born – now the result can be shown. In two years of work the new album „Petrified Forest“ arose, my hymn to the lithic wonder of the world of Chemnitz.
